Day Trip on Kiwa

Step aboard KIWA for our signature experience off the Coromandel coast. A fully guided charter, exploring offshore islands, secluded coves and access abundant dive sanctuaries.

Keen to get into snorkelling & freediving? We can get you started with guided experiences tailored to your pace and preferences. Step onto world-class empty beaches. Finish the day by having your freshly harvested seafood prepared by a private chef. This is a celebration of the ocean and its abundance.

Beginner Freediving

New to freediving and spearfishing?

We’re here to guide you every step of the way. We start with safety, breath-hold, dive technique & gun handling, before building your hunting skills in the water.

This is a targeted excursion where we take you to productive reefs to hone your skills.

Advanced Freediving

Seasoned spearos, this one’s for you.

Bring your dive fitness & your hunting head, we’ll provide the boat, skipper, safety and access to some of the most productive dive sanctuaries in New Zealand.

Hunt for your target species, including NZ Giant Kingfish, Crayfish, Snapper and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We’re different from standard charters because of our conservation mindset, highest safety ratings, qualified and highly experienced crew. We follow a sustainable, low-impact approach to seafood harvesting - only taking what we need and using everything we catch. Our crew ensure you feel safe and confident during your charter. We live and breathe the ocean and look forward to sharing it with you. 

  • Our private charters aboard KIWA depart primarily out of Whitianga Wharf, and around the Coromandel Peninsula, but we can arrange for trips from anywhere in New Zealand on request.  

  • Our full day charter is typically 8am to 4pm, and we also offer a half-day option. Let us know your timeframe and preferences and we can tailor a charter to suit your needs. 


  • We can arrange for lunch and refreshments to be provided on board for $35/per person. You’re also welcome to bring any of your own food. 

  • Zero experience is needed. If you’re keen to try freediving and spearfishing, we can start you from the basics and help build your confidence and skills in the water.

  • Absolutely! There’s plenty of room on the boat for fishing, snorkelling, sightseeing or simply relaxing.

  • Peak summer dates tend to book out quickly due to high demand. We recommend you try to book your charter hunt at least 2-3 months early, especially if you require airport transfers or gear hire. 

  • You're welcome to bring your own setup, or we can arrange premium spearfishing gear hire for you when finalising your booking.
